Orion is NASA's spacecraft that will take humans deep into space. No other spacecraft in development has the technology needed for the extremes of deep space, such as life support, navigation, communications, radiation shielding and the world's largest heat shield that will protect astronauts and help return them safely home.

Read. Story. Science Technicians recently joined the spacecraft’s barrel section, which is the round middle part of the spacecraft, to the aft bulkhead, which is the bottom portion of the crew module. Orion’s primary structure is composed of seven large pieces that are put together in detailed order.

EDT, engineers will drop a 14,000-pound test version of the Orion spacecraft into the Hydro Impact Basin at the Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. The Orion (officially Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle or Orion MPCV) is a class of partially reusable space capsules to be used in NASA's human spaceflight programs. The spacecraft consists of a Crew Module (CM) designed by Lockheed Martin and the European Service Module (ESM) manufactured by Airbus De Orion Spacecraft. Do you want to change our world by sending humans to another one? Now is the time.

NASA has committed to buy three new Orion capsules that will include the spacecraft that will carry the next U.S. astronauts to the moon, the agency announced

Orion spacecraft

The Orion spacecraft will venture thousands of miles beyond the moon during Exploration Mission-1, its first mission atop NASA's Space Launch System rocket.

Orion's first flight test, Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1), launched on Dec. 5, 2014, allowing engineers to evaluate the systems critical to crew safety, the launch abort system, the heat shield and the parachute system. Named after one of the largest constellations in the night sky and drawing from more than 50 years of spaceflight research and development, the Orion spacecraft is designed to meet the evolving needs of our nation’s deep space exploration program for decades to come.
